The Kolewa Foundation is a small-scale foundation, founded by Syta Plantinga, an ambitious entrepreneur from the Netherlands. Together with her husband Peter Veenstra, she was struck by the miserable conditions they encountered on various islands such as Rote, Flores and Alor and the Moluccas, but also in the interior of Bali. From 2009 onwards, Syta and Peter started working from Bali to improve the situation for children in Indonesia.
Syta is the driving force behind Kolewa. She is constantly looking for new partners, sponsors and opportunities to help the children even better. The Kolewa Foundation is an ANBI and CBF recognized charity. She works entirely with volunteers and is supported in Bali by a professional and committed Indonesian team employed by her counterpart Yayasan Kolewa Harapan Indonesia.
In 2017 the Kolewa Foundation was officially registered in Indonesia under the name Yayasan Kolewa Harapan Indonesia. Besides Syta Plantinga as the founder of the NGO, the board counts four Indonesian board members in Bali.
