Mister Supari was born on the 1th of July on Eastern- Java, his parents lived in a small village named Rogojampi Kederi.
He was born with a cleft lip. As it usually goes Supari too became subject of mockery and was bullied a lot. the family existed of the parents and up to 7 children, there hardly was income and especially for him no chance of education.
The other children went before him, where possible. Supari can’t read or write. Still young he began mulling about his future. At the age of twelve he left his house and took off to the little Nusa Tenggara island Komodo. [Read more…]
How are things going with Heldi…
You surely remember her, the terribly burned young girl from Kupang, we named her a living dead back then. Her situation was horrible. Exactly a year ago we started fundraising to make surgeries in Australia possible.
Your heart was big so we could bring her to Bali, arrange for passports, prepare to the western world and the heavy surgeries. In October she ledft for Perth, together with her niece Holldyn, The were
Uw hart was groot, we konden haar naar Bali halen, paspoorten regelen, voorbereiden op de westerse wereld en zware operaties. In oktober vertrok ze naar Perth, samen met haar nicht Holldyn. They were lovingly taken care of by a large group of friends Kolewa there, and found shelter with Aimee en Kevin.

Schoolbus action in full swing!
As you know Kolewa Foundation supports a big group of deaf and hearing-impaired childrenen in Karangasem on Bali.
Some of these children have reached a level which requires going to a ‘real’ school.
We have made a foundation, now it’s up to the professionals… these kids want to have diplomas which give them a future. Sounds easy but it’s not. Nevertheless we decided to start already with 4 children from the group. Nanda, Kurniawan, Neni en Phonica travel every day from Rendang to Denpasar: they are at school! Schoolmoney, uniforms and school supplies we could provide for thanks to donations from the Red Carpet Bar on Bali and a generous gift from 93 year old Jeep Plantinga.

Often people ask: what are the costs of cleft-lip surgery in Indonesie?
Kolewa Foundation helps about 125 children with cleft lip or open palate every year. We scout and travel with them to Bali, we house them in our shelter home en support during the complete medical process
To prevent suprises permanent arrangements are made with Dharma Yadnya Hospital in Denpasar and the medical team of dr. Asmarajaya. The year has only just begun and Rumah Bicara is already getting full!
Normally there are about 12 patients and their mentors (parent, grandmother, sister), Klemens our housekeeper and Ledy our cook.
To be sure, we have some convertible beds for emergency situations, which currently come in handy.
