The way in which the shelter home of Kolewa Foundation is run, definitely shows Dutch influence. The team has learned a lot about hygiene, healthy nutrition, regularity and working together towards a good living environment. However, unexpected situations can always arise and, according to good Dutch practice, there has to be be a plan in place. Intern Glenn is helping team leader Ana create an emergency escape plan poster and a local company was called in to install fire extinguishers. On 2 October, the entire team, including ‘our’ business administration student from Groningen, took part in a fire prevention and fire fighting course. It has been a very valuable experience for all of us. Of course we hope it will never happen but being somewhat prepared for an emergency situation is much better than being at a loss if it ever does.
